The WKND Social: May Edition

So the first winter edition of the wknd social went down this past Saturday and I must say I was anxious to see how the event would turn out, whether everyone would stick to the monochromatic theme, and what mood I would be in that morning (cause what I wear is mainly determined by what kind of mood I’m on, of course!) and what I would end up throwing together.

Myself and my girls (Noni & Thami) #monochromatic

We showed up to the Ithuba art gallery in Braam to find lovely people working their way into the spot, and we walked in to find the white washed walls clad with the B&W artwork by Sifiso Seleme, which just tied in well with our monochromatic theme for the day...

The wknd social’s signature Gin & Tonic was obviously at the top of the list of options and Gordon’s helped us kick start our day, as we were swept off by wonderfully old skool jams, yummy food and these strange slushy brutal fruit cocktail (I say strange cause I’m not much of a cider kinda gal, but really enjoyed em)…

yummmy!

As per usual, we headed over to the Puma Social Club to end off the day with the day party, and if you asked me, everyone seemed to be having just a little bit more fun than usual… not that im complaining lol, I say it was one hell of a warm welcome to this winter and I hope to see you at the next edition of the wknd social! *wink*

SAVE THE DATE: The WKND Social

So, the last edition of the WKND social, got cancelled due to a bad weather forecast; and sadly winter snatched away what was supposed to be a fabulous send off to those longer days & warm evenings.

We've let bygones be bygones and are welcoming winter with a monochromatic themed edition of the social. A fitting theme, as its a big call out this season, I have mixed emotions about this saturday as I have ample inspiration... but I havent a clue what i'll be wearing *sigh*

Check back next week to see what I end up throwing together, thats if I dont see you there of course!

Trend Alert: Cable Knitwear

With days getting shorter and the temperature dropping, I’m sure we’ve all started to unpacking our winter faves and keeping an eye out when shopping for those winter must haves for the season, you know I am, and more responsibly so (as I said in my Fashion Resolutions post).

Cable knits and their cousins are a staple of the winter months. Knitwear has surfaced in a big way this season and I am not those slumpy bleak jerseys that your grandma wears (although we heart most things vintage)... I’m talking about the chunky knit jumpers, the statement cardigans and the high neck boyfriend jumper (note: no actual boyfriend is required to pull off this style) that you need to be rocking this  winter.

London Girl!

Was in London last week on a buying trip and while traipsing down Oxford street I got to see the stunning hoola bag in person [with a nothing but a glass store window keeping us separated]...

...as I stood and marvelled at this lovely bag with its odd shape, in walked Kourtney Kardashian with her son Mason in hand and her mother Kris. I’m not much of a Kardashian fan, but I must say I like Kourtney and her sense of style, which brings me to her fabulous pair of over-sized Lennon style sunnies… I was drooling over them, when I was interrupted by Kris grabbing the hoola bag from the display window and well my heart sank as I snapped a pic and moved right along!

Went on to try check out the infamous Portobello Market, but unfortunately it wasn’t on, and I had to settle for checking out the cute little vintage stores and quaint little coffee spots that lined the street.

Didnt take many pics, but I must say my love for this city runs deep...

SAVE THE DATE: The WKND Social

I missed last months edition of The WKND Social's monthly brunch and I didnt want to miss this one...

and as per usual the tickets for the brunch sold out quicker than you could ask "what's the WKND social"... cause if you dont know by know *side-eye* #nuffsaid lol!

This is edition marks the last shindig for the season, bidding farewell to summer with their final rooftop picnic & dayparty that will not move to the Puma Social Club as it normally does, but instead stay at the same venue for us to dance the evening away whilst the sun sets and the stars come out. Of course I will give feedback on the event, so check back on monday to see all that was worn & wonderful at #theWKNDsocial

Check out the post from the last one i went to here.

Trend Alert: All Gold Everything!

As you all know, what we see in stores is driven by what is seen coming down those famous runway shows that happen twice a year, featuring some of the worlds oldest and most loved runway brands. Trends this winter have gone really dark (you know in that gothic, rocker type way), and black is coming through quite strongly in leather, velvet, denim, and all. But i thing black with gold detailing is key!

There’s a certain kind of fierceness with the combination of black and gold, I think it’s the stunning contrast, the way the gold stands out even more against the black; and although the trend has more of a punk rocker inspiration this season, I find if done right, this combination can be quite chic.

So when it comes to accenting your black outfit, try work in a touch [or better yet a chunk] of gold for a lovely update… be it studs, skulls, spikes, sequins, just about any gold sparkly detail will do.

Puma Social Sequel (^^ ,)

Heard rumours about the party continuing behind the mosaic door in Braamies on Friday nights?
Well the rumours are true! PUMA have decided to extend PUMA Social Club until 20 September this year – news that I'm sure will make all you fun lovers smile from ear to ear.

22 March was a sad day for many of Joburg's young at heart urbanites as it marked the last official Friday night at the popular PUMA Social Club in Braamies. Known for hosting awesome live acts like Desmond and the Tutus, Gazelle, The Frown, Yesterday’s Pupil & Tumi, The Muffinz, Matt Suttner and Spoek Mathambo... providing party-goers with a mix of after-hours sports, local music and late night fun, PUMA Social Jozi has kept the crowds wanting more.

So this friday night Puma calls for all After-hours Athletes to gather at the hot spot now close to our hearts - behind the mosaic wall at 81 De Korte Street, Braamfontein - to get the party going for another six months!

To be part of the action that starts up again on 12 April, simply register at www.pumasocialjozi.com and your name will be put on a list at the door, or pay R20 when you arrive on the night. And if you can’t find it, just look for the mass of Joburg trendsetters waiting patiently in the line each week.

Become a fan on http://www.facebook.com/puma or follow the happenings via twitter at @PUMA and use #PUMASocialJozi for any tweets about PUMA Social.
